A winter weather advisory has been issued for all of eastern Carolina except Carteret, Onslow, and Duplin counties through 4am Friday. Light freezing rain and sleet will be possible.
The Cape Lookout National Seashore will also be closed due to the threat from Hurricane Ophelia. Park staff has implemented its emergency weather evacuation plan until further notice. All passenger ferry services to the islands have been terminated and overnight guests are being evacuated. The seashore from Beaufort Inlet to Ocracoke Inlet is closed to visitors and all services are shut down. Also, all non-residents are under a mandatory evacuation from Ocracoke Island.
