Walking shoes were out in full force Saturday morning in Pitt County... all walking towards the goal of eliminating juvenile diabetes.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk For a Cure was held Saturday morning at the Pitt County Fairgrounds, and had some 1500 hundred walkers lace up their shoes and go for one long stroll. The walk is a fundraiser to help those with diabetes, and according to officials its a big problem for Eastern Carolina. They say one in four patients at Pitt County Memorial Hospital has some form of diabetes and that number is increasing, but they say the cure is in sight.
The event also had some fun, the best t-shirt competition, live music, and much more. The goal was to raise over 200,000 dollars. WITN was a proud sponsor of the event and our own Anna Holoman was the master of ceremonies.
