In March 1997, the oldest shipwreck ever found was in North Carolina's waters.
That ship is believed to be the 'Queen's Anne's Revenge' one of Blackbeard's ships. Now artifacts found on board are on display for the public to see.
The QAR Conservation Laboratory displayed various objects, like pewter plates, ceramics, ship timbers and a canon from the site that, Water Archaeologist, Chris Southerly describes as the heaviest cannon to date.
Southerly says they're now coming into the main area of the site and are recovering more personal items. This is helping them have a better understanding about the story behind these artifacts.
"So we're starting to put a picture together a more comfortable picture of the artifacts and kind of have an idea of trying to get a glimpse into the people of the pirate at the time if this is as we assume the Queen Anne's Revenge" say Southerly.
Those artifacts will be transported to the NORTH CAROLINA Maritime Museum in Beaufort after being processed and identified.
