The first Pitt County Red Cross volunteer heading for the Gulf Coast region left Thursday. Martha Taylor-Hardee is headed for Montgomery, Alabama where she will be processed along with other Red Cross volunteers from across the country. She is a retired social worker and veteran Red Cross volunteer who has received training in the areas of mass care, disaster relief, family services, and shelter management. Martha has no idea where she'll end up. More volunteers are being trained and approximately 50-80 could be ready to go as soon as three weeks from now.
