Operation Goldrush is the name of the two-year investigation that resulted in the dismantling of an international drug cell in Wayne County.
At a press conference Friday, federal, state and local law enforcement announced the sentencing of Mexican attorney Alfredo Granados-Garcia. Lawmen say he ran a major drug operation with a substantial base in Wayne County, but officials say Granados-Garcia's cocaine trafficking didn't stop there.
The drug organization was connected to the Gulf cartel in Mexico with distribution operations in Georgia, Texas and North Carolina. Officials say Granados-Garcia is about as big as it gets when it comes to drug dealers. He received a sentence of 30 years in prison and deportation.
