One elementary school in Onslow County is recovering from the outbreak of a flu-like virus. The Onslow County Health Department has confirmed that a large number of students at Dixon Elementary School, near Sneads Ferry, contracted the Norwalk Virus around the first week of October. Health officials say in one day 143 students were out sick. Officials say many of those students had the virus. The health department says Norwalk is a gastrointestinal virus that acts much like the flu, with vomiting and diarrhea and generally takes less than a week to get over. The school's principal says most of the students have all ready returned to school. Students are also being asked to regularly wash their hands.
