Durham police say a 13-hour standoff has ended in a suicide. Sterling Linaus Maye apparently shot and killed himself Sunday because police say he was wanted in connection with a shooting last month in which someone kicked in an apartment door and shot his ex-girlfriend in the stomach. According to law enforcement, the 44-year-old was also wanted for a federal probation violation. Maye had escaped police Friday in a car chase, but officers received a tip Saturday night that Maye was inside a Holloway Street house. He refused to come out and police negotiators failed to get him to give up, which is when police forced their way into the house around noon Sunday and found Maye dead inside. No one else was injured.
