Pitt County Memorial Hospital can now perform brain surgery without cutting into a patient's head. Hospital officials and guests cut the ribbon Thursday to officially open the Gamma Knife Center at the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center. The Gamma Knife is used to diagnose and treat benign and malignant brain tumors or lesions. The Gamma Knife allows doctors to send a high dose of radiation to one area shrinking or even killing the cancer. The recovery time is just a few hours.
