Folks in Carteret County continue to recover from last week's onslaught from Hurricane Ophelia on Eastern Carolina.
Millions of dollars in damage was done to the county. At one point during the storm, nearly half the 60,000 or so residents did not have power. Morehead City mayor Jerry Jones said crews of all kinds are working 12 hour days to get things back in order. The Sheraton Atlantic Beach made national news when the end of its 600 foot pier was swept away during the storm. That pier, we're pleased to say, re-opened Friday, but some other repair work in the hotel is still underway.
