The police department communication tower in Washington took a direct lightning hit Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff deputies say 911 calls were transferred to Beaufort County just as calls started pouring in about flooded streets in Washington.
Lieutenant William Chrismon with the Washington Police department says there have not been any reports of citizens unable to get through to emergency services during the time the communication tower was down.
