Two Fish Kills for Neuse

Video will be available shortly.

The first major fish kills of the season along in the Neuse River have come earlier than expected according to local environmentalists and at a high cost.

In all about 50-thousand fish have died in two separate fish kills this past Wednesday and Thursday. The cause, a combination of heat and lack of oxygen in the river, which has a depth of only about 14 to 20 feet from the river to the sound. The fish kills are an on-going problem for the Neuse River, something the Lower Neuse River Keeper tells us is magnified by human pollution.

Officials say polluted storm water is one of the main sources of damage to the river.
