It's an emergency situation for us here in Eastern Carolina when it comes to our blood supply.
Red Cross officials say they are on an emergency appeal for blood. They say blood stockpiles are so low they are only releasing certain types of blood during emergencies, and are on restricted release for some of the other types. One blood drive, was held at the Zion Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Sunday afternoon from one until four, and while the goal was 30 pints, they had only collected about 12 with an hour to go. Officials say this is typical of the summer months, when blood is needed most due to more accidents, but less people are around because of vacation.
Please contact your local Red Cross if you would like to donate blood in this time of extreme need.
