Nourishment Projects Save Beaches

Video will be available shortly.

Hurricane Ophelia may be gone but her finger print can still be spotted in many coastal communities in Eastern Carolina. The Carteret County town of Emerald Isle suffered minor damage to homes and businesses but some sections of beach there were eroded when Ophelia ripped through. Town officials say erosion would have been far worse had it not been for two major beach nourishment projects in the last few years. Coastal surveyors should have more complete estimates of beach erosion along Emerald Isle by the end of the week.
