Seeking higher ground from Hurricane Ophelia's slow rising surge and flood waters, hundreds of residents in the east with campers and boats are finally returning to dry ground.
It was a parade of homes of sorts for several riverside residents making their way to low-lying areas submerged by Ophelia's surge waters in Beaufort County. This lot in Chocowinity is often a make-shift relief site for residents fleeing from tropical weather along the shores of Whichard's Beach. Saturday folks were latching and loading their campers for the short trip from Chocowinity high grounds along Highway 17 back to the shores of their riverside lots.
Whichard's Beach residents say the water quickly receded.
