Officials say our state's coasts were already short on sand, but now after Hurricane Ophelia, some homes, businesses, and more are in true danger. Hurricane Ophelia came after a nor'easter, that began Labor Day, eroded many beaches along the state's coastline. State Coastal experts say Ophelia was the equivalent of a winter's worth of storms in just one week. The Crystal Coast was hammered, while Topsail Beach lost 25 feet of sand in some places, but the storm seemed to spare the Outer Banks.
