Navy Back In Court

The Navy, as well as attorneys for residents of Washington and Beaufort counties opposed to an outlying landing field in Eastern Carolina, met in Richmond, Virginia Wednesday morning in front of the fourth circuit court of appeals. According to Plymouth mayor Brian Roth, a three judge panel thoroughly questioned both sides for about an hour and a half.
The panel began by asking the Navy why they now plan to pursue the OLF, if the Base Realignment and Closure Commission closes Oceana Naval Air Station, in Virginia. Oceana was supposed to be home to many of the jets that would use the field in Washington county for practice. The news that Oceana might close came down Tuesday. The court handed down no decision about the fate of the OLF Wednesday. We'll keep you posted on this story.
