One Local County Puts Parents On Alert

The gas shortage brought on by Katrina is now starting to affect our state's public school system. Greene County schools sent home a letter to parents Friday warning their current gas shortage could cause them to cancel school by Friday of next week. School officials say their shipment of diesel fuel didn't arrive this week and they only have enough gas to get them through Thursday of next week. School Superintendent Steve Mazingo says he wanted to make parents aware of the issue as early as possible. Pitt and Beaufort County schools say they have a similar situation, but have not yet decided whether closing schools is an option.
