It takes a lot of work to get the field at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on the campus of East Carolina University in Greenville ready for gameday. A crew of eight spent all week getting the pirate playing surface ready for Saturday's home-opener between the Pirates and Duke. From mowing to grooming and watering, the final touches went on the field Thursday with a new paint touch-up. The field manager tells us that when all the hard work is done and kick-off rolls around, he gets a real sense of satisfaction watching the pirates take the field on his turf.
