Marines and Sailors from Eastern Carolina left Thursday morning to help the battered Gulf Coast. 120 Marines geared up and boarded 8 helicopters at New River Air Station in Jacksonville. The helicopters, and two C130 cargo planes are headed first to Pensacola, Florida and then on to rescue and re-supply missions across Katrina's disaster zone. And, the local troops have only had one day to get their orders, get all they'll need and get into the air. These Super Stallion helicopters are the biggest in America's arsenal and can haul thousands of pounds of supplies or dozens of passengers. They can also be used from a fleet of Navy amphibious ships now on the way from Norfolk to the Gulf region.
