The Morehead City area is about to get a lot busier because of Katrina's hit on the port of New Orleans. North Carolina's port is number two in the nation, behind New Orleans, in bringing in a key material to keep the wheels of commerce rolling across America. That material is rubber. And now with the port in New Orleans out of commission, the one here is getting a lot busier to help keep the tire manufacturers plants running. The first full shipload of rubber will be offloaded next week at Morehead City, more than 1,000 truckloads of rubber that will be shipped to tire plants across the country from Eastern Carolina.
