Governor Signs Lottery Bill

It's a done deal. North Carolina will finally get a lottery, and some state officials say school children all across the state are the biggest winners of the education lottery bill. Governor Mike Easley signed the bill Wednesday morning. Pitt County superintendent of schools Doctor Michael Priddy says profits from the lottery will help schools by increasing the number of teachers, enhancing the state's pre-kindergarten program, and aiding in the construction of new schools across the state. A nine-member lottery commission will now be appointed by Governor Easley and others to oversee the creation of our state lottery.
