Checkpoint Nets Offenders

10 law enforcement agencies from Pasquotank, Gates, Currituck, Camden, Perquimans and many points in our Northeastern counties conducted a state organized check-point in Elizabeth City over the weekend.

A total of 108 enforcement actions were taken at a traffic check point on US Highway 17 at the intersection of Forest Park Road. Officials from the Governors Highway Safety Program and the Department of Forensic Testing out of Raleigh aided in the apprehension of several traffic violators at the stop Friday night. There were 8 felony arrests for controlled substances, 16 misdemeanor arrests, 57 infractions and citations written, two DWI arrests, several child seat checks, and many other various lawmen enforcement actions taken as well.

Authorities say the check point was held in an effort to improve traffic, the proper use of vehicle equipment and over all safety on Eastern Carolina roadways.
