Opponents rally as Bush tours N.C. to raise support for CAFTA. The atmosphere was friendly inside as President Bush drummed up support for trade with Central America. But outside the Gaston County textile mill and community college where he spoke yesterday, it was a different story. Protesters warned that the trade deal could continue to gut North Carolina's textile industry -- the opposite of the impact Bush says it will have. Former Senator John Edwards skipped the protest, but issued a statement criticizing the speech. Edwards -- the son of a textile worker -- said Bush has ignored struggling textile communities, and so it's an insult that now he's promoting another deal that will hurt them.
