Water and sewer rates in Greenville are going up May 1st.

Water rates will go up 4.4%, while sewer rates jump 14% for the typical customer.

Greenville Utilities Board of Commissioners approved the hike last night.

GUC says the rate hike will add approximately $4.47 a month to the average customer's bill.

The utility says increased prices for fuel, supplies, materials and insurance have impacted their costs.

GUC says even with the rate hike, water bills in Greenville are still below those of other water systems, including Bell Arthur, Wilson, Cary and Kinston.
