Inking His Place in North Carolina's History

James Davis isn't a name you see in most history books, yet he inked quite a name for himself in Colonial North Carolina. James Davis set up the first print shop in the state printing money, books and legal documents. While Davis is a figure from the past, his legacy lives on. Virginia Doughton, a direct descendent of Davis, has dedicated her time to researching her ancestor and his contributions, including many firsts, like establishing the first newspaper in North Carolina. Davis had seven children. Two of his sons fought in the Revolutionary War.
