A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
Hurricane Katrina may not have much of a direct impact on Eastern Carolina, but we could see changes in our workforce, particularly in the hardware department.
Lowe's Home Improvement stores across the United States, are known for sending supplies to the areas that need it most. Wood, bottled water, generators, all items that will likely be transferred from our stores to the stores down in Louisiana and Mississippi, but the hardware stores in the area also send our employees. Lowe's knows that firsthand, because they sent 18 workers from Eastern Carolina to Florida a year ago.
Hardware store officials advise local customers to be patient if local stores are out of generators, or certain types of wood after this storm hits. They say chances are the supplies are being used where they are needed most.
