It's the only bridge that runs to Hatteras Island along the Outer Banks and the debate is on over how best to replace the Bonner Bridge.
Local leaders say the two-point-four-mile span across Oregon Inlet is years beyond its life expectancy. But state transportation officials say the
42-year-old bridge is safe and subject to regular inspections and
maintenance.
