Updated: Wed 8:50 PM, Jul 06, 2005

Folks in Eastern Carolina and all across the state could soon see higher television bills regardless if you have cable or satellite. Cable companies say that state legislators are looking to increase taxes on cable and satellite television customers. Cable pays a five percent franchise fee, and could have to pay a seven percent sales tax, meaning 12 percent in total fees. While satellite companies pay a five percent sales tax, which could go up to seven as well, an increase of two percent. If all proposals are passed, the increased bill will take effect October 1.
