Plans for a Pier Submitted to Cut Travel Time Down for Students

Print

Currituck County officials hope to have a new pier for children who want to take a ferry to school by the time school starts next month.

Engineers with the State Wildlife Resource Commission submitted their designs for a 504-foot pier to the State Coastal Resource Commission and the U.S. Corps of Engineers last week.

Right now, students travel 90 minutes one way to schools on the Currituck mainland, a time that officials say the ferry could cut in half.
