Busy Day at Ft. Macon

It was such a busy day at Fort Macon State Park Monday that the main parking lot was temporarily closed to incoming beach traffic. Fortunately for beachgoers, the lot reopened around noon.

This left people with plenty of time to enjoy the park, fishing, sunbathing, or splashing in the water. For many, spending the Fourth of July at the beach has become somewhat of a tradition.

The park is surrounded on three sides by water, the Atlantic Ocean, Beaufort Inlet and Bogue Sound.
