One Of The Busiest Independence Days In Years

If you're hitting the roadways this holiday weekend you'll have plenty of company. In fact, the AAA Motor Club is predicting the heaviest Fourth of July travel in at least the last nine years. It says nearly 38,000,000 people across the country say they expect to travel fifty miles or more this weekend. And we may be in the thick of it. The greatest number of motorists is expected to come from the Southeast with 8,200,000 travelers. And what can you expect to pay for gas? The average price nationwide for unleaded is $2.27 a gallon, 37 cents higher than a year ago. A check of stations across Eastern Carolina shows you'll find prices as low as $2.07 a gallon all the way up to that national average.
