Plane Crashes Near Lumberton

Three people escaped with their lives Saturday when their small plane crashed near Lumberton.

The crash happened as the plane tried to take off from the Lumberton Municipal Airport. Officials say the Beechcraft C-R-24 had climbed to about 50 or 60 feet off the ground, when it was knocked down by a strong crosswind. Police say the plane was headed for Rock Hill, South Carolina around noon.

The three people aboard the plane were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Their names, ages, and conditions were not available.
