Accident Blocks Traffic, Sends Driver to the Hospital

A cement truck driver was flown to an area hospital, after his rig overturned Thursday afternoon on Highway 17 in Craven County North of Bridgeton. Authorities say that the mixer truck rolled over, blocking traffic on the main North-South highway through Eastern Carolina. State troopers say the single vehicle wreck happened at about 3:30, and they had to divert traffic onto a detour as crews worked to clean up spilled cement, and right that big truck. East Care flew the driver, whose name has not been released, from the scene to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, for treatment of head injuries.
