Woman Shot 6 Times Before High Speed Chase

Details have come to light in a shooting and high speed chase Friday night in Onslow County.

Authorities say it started around 7:30 at the Liberty Crossings Apartments when 45 year old Tyrone Anthony Burks shot his girlfriend 39 year old Dorthea Thomas 6 times. After leaving the scene of the crime, authorities tried to pull him over, when a high speed chase began. Police say Burks bailed out of his car, while it was traveling over 100 miles an hour, and it later crashed into a number of billboards, and utility poles. Burks has been arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, speeding 115 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. Thomas was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, and was listed in good condition.
