Vendors Seeing Green After Summerfest

The city of Washington proved they know how to take advantage of a beautiful weekend with a downtown party that drew in thousands of people and more than a million dollars in revenue.

That's according to city officials who say the Washington Summer Festival is the largest fundraiser for the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce. Last years event was held in July, and was moved to more than a week before the actual start of summer in an effort to beat a heat wave like the one last July. For visitors the festivities are all about listening to local music, mingling with other Eastern Carolinians, sampling meats and treats, but for more than a hundred vendors set up here, they are definitely getting a taste of the green!

The Washington Summer Festival wrapped up at 11 o'clock on Saturday night.
