Shopping Spree or Big Scam?

Video will be available shortly.

A nationwide phone scam has hit Eastern Carolina. Investigators say it all starts with an out-of-state phone call offering free shopping vouchers for Wal-Mart. In exchange for just a $4.95 shipping fee, you're promised $500.00 in gift certificates, provided you give the operator your bank information. Investigators with the Federal Trade Commission, as well as local officials are investigating. Wal-Mart meantime says anyone who receives a telephone call in which the caller offers a Wal-Mart shopping spree and other items in return for credit card information or checking account and routing numbers should report the incident to authorities.
