A natural gas leak in Greenville causes rescue workers to empty a church daycare and secure an intersection. Rescue workers say construction crews working at the intersection of 14th and Elm Street accidentally broke a natural gas main Tuesday morning. Once officials determined the gas was a threat the area was secured. Children at the First Presbyterian Church Daycare were evacuated. Crews had the line patched up by noon, and the kids were bussed back to the church. No one was hurt in the incident. Along with stopping cars and trucks at noontime, the police department also had to stop a freight train from passing the scene. The tracks run just five feet away from the spot that gas was coming up out of the ground.
