Could Collective bargaining be in the future for the employees of Beaufort County's largest business?

Union organizers were handing out fliers during Monday afternoon's shift change at PCS Phosphate in Aurora.

PCS currently has no union representing any of its employees. During the grassroots effort about every fourth of fifth car stopped to take a flyer explaining the benefits of organizing a union.

The organizers were members of local 1167 of the United Steelworkers at the New Bern pulp mill.

I read an article this week about an axle manufacturing plant in Michigan that makes axles for GM vehicles. The workers at this plant, with the support of their union, were threatening to go on strike due to wages, retirement, benefits, etc.. The article went on to state that these tradesmen were already making an average of $70 an hour. Yea I know the cost of living is higher up north but not that much. This is one of the many reasons why jobs are leaving the north and automobiles are priced so high. There are enough watchdog groups and laws these days that a union presence is no longer needed. Yes a union can sometimes get better wages and benefits for the workers but the possible long term effect(shuting down manufacturing) is not worth the risk. Its all about greed. PCS employees need to think long and hard about this. I don't work there but know several individuals that have and do. Your compensation is pretty good. Be thankful you have a good paying job. Many don't.
