K-9 Officer Attacked

A Kinston Police dog is lucky to be alive after being attacked by a pit bull Sunday night. Authorities say the canine and its handler were searching the grounds of a residence at East Gordon Street after responding to a reported shooting in the area. During the search, a pit bull in a neighboring yard was able to get through a fence and attack the police dog. The canine handler was forced to shoot and kill the pit bull. The K-9's handler says his dog did its best to protect the human officers at the scene. The police dog suffered no injuries in the fight, and no charges are pending against the owner of the pit bull at this time.
