Learning For The Summer

School is out for most kids this summer. But some young leaders in Jacksonville are getting important hands-on lessons that could help them become scientists, engineers, politicians, even t-v reporters. This is the sixth year of Jacksonville's Sturgeon City Institutes, which brings students from area high schools and colleges together to learn about their environment, their hometown, and possibly about new careers. And it is hands-on, learning in the media institute, how newspapers, t-v, and new media on the internet are changing the face of journalism. Instructors from UNC-Wilmington, Onslow County Schools, and area professionals, like WITN's Alan Covey, are mentoring several hundred future leaders in this year's Sturgeon City events.
