They're Back!

If you've spent a lot of time outdoors this spring, you may already know mosquitoes are out and attacking. The North Carolina Department of Health says Memorial Day signals the start of mosquito season. So how bad will the pesky parasites be this year? The state says since mosquito activity varies from year to year, it's hard to predict how bad it will be this summer. The health department notes last year was mild for mosquito-borne diseases, but 2003 was very active. Officials say people should take steps to protect themselves from the three illnesses carried by mosquitoes in North Carolina: La Crosse Encephalitis, West Nile Virus, and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
