After being listed in good condition on Thursday an 18 month old Jones County boy mauled by the family pit bull continues to recover at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Hospital officials wouldn't confirm whether or not the child is being tested for rabies, a main concern from Jones County authorities. Officials are already waiting for information from animal control officials as to whether or not the pit bull was rabid. Authorities say Kejuan Hargrove was sitting with his mom on the porch of their home on Simmons Loop Road near Pollocksville when he was attacked Wednesday afternoon. Lawmen say the dog somehow got off a chain in the backyard, ran around to the front and jumped on the boy for no reason.
