Department of Defense Releases Its BRAC Recommendations

The Defense Department released its BRAC recommendations Friday morning. They are designed to realign forces and civilians on bases across the country and to close some installations to save nearly $50 billion over the next two decades. Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota is one of 33 major proposed closures. It is home to 29
B-1B Bombers, half the Nation's fleet of the aircraft, and the state's second largest employer. North Carolina, thankfully, is not faring the same fate. The state actually did fairly well in the suggested cuts, losing only 568 troops and gaining 307 civilian postings.
