Fuel of the Future Being Used by Local Hospital

Biodiesel. Advocates say it's the fuel of the future. And now one local hospital is making history for being one of the first to use the fuel alternative. Officials with Pitt County Memorial Hospital announced Monday that emergency vehicles and campus shuttle buses will run on biodiesel, a mixture of traditional diesel and diesel made from soybeans and other natural fats. Environmentalists say the fuel burns cleaner than traditional diesel, reducing the amount of harmful chemicals that are emitted into the air. If you own a diesel vehicle, you can purchase biodiesel throughout Eastern Carolina. Counties in the area where biodiesel is available include Beaufort, Gates, Nash, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Wayne and Wilson.
