A new study may soon prove that people with asthma could suffer greater heart problems. The study began as a research project for a graduate student at the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville. It has led to results in mice which show that asthma-related inflammation could be making heart problems worse, compared to mice that don't have asthma. Professor of physiology Dr. Bob Lust, has been assisting in the research, and says the findings could help doctors treat heart problems more effectively. Dr. Lust says the next step is to figure out the exact cause of the cardiac changes in people with asthma.
