Authorities are investigating an possible house fire or possible explosion in Duplin County.

Authorities say some type of minor explosion caused the ground to shake around quite a few homes near the intersections of Serecta and Sand Ridge Road off Highway 111 just north of Beaulaville Saturday. An investigation is underway at a single story home in that neighborhood, where county emergency service management officials, fire fighters, and Duplin County Sheriff Department investigators are scouring the area for clues as to what caused the noisy mishap.

The call came in just after 1 p.m. Saturday. There were reports that the house contained hazardous chemicals, so fire officials couldn't enter the home immediately. The Sheriff's Department is investigating, but they refused to comment when we called them. The fire department had the house fire under control around 3:30 p.m., and luckily there were no injuries reported.
