Wild Ride for Lawmen on Both Sides of the County Line

A report of a shooting sends lawmen from two counties and the highway patrol into action. It started in Washington, where police were called to Van Norden Street where someone heard gunshots. A white Jeep Cherokee reportedly involved in a shooting was heading out of town towards Pitt County on Highway 264. The State Highway Patrol then picked up the call, spotted the jeep and followed it onto Clarks Neck Road into the River Creek Subdivision. The trooper then stopped the jeep, drawing his gun, ordering the driver and passenger out of the vehicle. The passenger fled on foot and escaped. The driver was arrested and charged. But when they searched the jeep, lawmen could not find a gun and found no evidence of a shooting in Washington.
