During the December holidays, the town of Manteo announced that all students between grades five through eleven would get free computers. And this weekend, public school kids living in Manteo got their gifts. Manteo brokered a deal with Charter Communications last year to bring free wireless internet access to the island town. But when a recent study showed many Manteo students didn't have computers, Mayor John Wilson says the town's goal still wasn't complete. Lenovo Corporation jumped in to provide the laptops to top it all off. The students get to keep their laptops as long as they stay in school.
