High Fire Threat Puts Fire Crews On Alert

Wildfires have been popping up across several communities in our area today--due to the weather.

Our meteorologists told us the conditions would cause a high fire threat and that it did. From Pitt County to Beaufort County crews have been busy.

But because of the red flag warning in Eastern Carolina,
Forestry crews are on alert today and Sunday.

The North Carolina Forestry Service out of Greenville spent the afternoon prepping their vehicles, fueling up trucks and plows, plus placing staff and helicopter assistance on standby.

The assistant fire ranger says the change in the weather is the reason they're being so cautious.

Blake advises if you have to burn today or tomorrow--be extra caution and have extinguishing materials nearby.
