Authorities have arrested a Northeast Guilford High School student on misdemeanor charges after he was subdued by a sheriff's deputy who stunned the boy with a Taser.
Officials say it's the first time a stun gun had been used in a public school since they were issued about two years ago.
Captain Phil Byrd says 17-year-old senior Jonathan Richardson was stunned yesterday. A school officer saw four students in a parking lot and thought they were acting suspiciously.
Byrd says Richardson was stunned during a struggle when the officer tried to search a student's pockets.
Richardson has been charged with assault on a police officer, obstruction and delay, possession of a box cutter on school property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
